Joy In God

By Pat Ford / Season of life: 79, Semi-Retired 🙂

Scripture

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  ~ Jeremiah 29:11

God is so good! He has given me a long life full of joy. Looking back, life also has hardships. The hard times can be great learning experiences. He is always with me and turns everything for the good. He is always faithful to forgive. As Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

God has exciting things in store even when you are older. When I was in my late 40s, I became a pilot. This was a miracle from God. I started flying in the spring when the trees were green, spring flowers were bursting with color, and our Great Smoky Mountains were gorgeous. The horizon and viewpoint have a breathtaking perspective from above. It was such joy seeing God’s handiwork!

Good news for all at any age.

Another miracle happened during the time I was having several major surgeries. I suddenly had a sedentary lifestyle, which was difficult for someone who is normally active. One day, my husband, who hates cats, came home with a kitten he had rescued. What a shock! I love my cat. This cat, Mattie, has been such a source of entertainment and comfort during my recovery. My husband now comes home and asks, “How’s my sweet girl?” And he means the cat, not me! God works in mysterious ways. Mattie has brought such joy to our lives.

Out of all your struggles, if you turn your life over to God, he will make something beautiful of your life and give you such peace. I hope everyone finds the faith and happiness I have found in my life.

Closing Prayer

Thank You, Father, for the small joys you provide in our lives.

In Jesus Name. Amen.
