Sing to the Lord a New Song
By Katie Daly / Season of life: Wife, Mom, Passionate Jesus-Follower
Scripture
Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.
The LORD has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight
of the nations.
He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel
All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody!
With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD!
Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it!
Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with equity.
~ Psalm 98
It is now time to sing to the Lord both a new and an old song – the song of the redeemed. Just as the people of God gathered by the shore of the Red Sea to praise God for delivering them, so we will one day stand together by the sea of glass and sing the victory of the Lamb. God has made His salvation known to us – in the
person of Jesus.
We don’t know OF His salvation, we know Him! In the incarnation, God has
revealed His righteousness, the righteousness of Christ, in which He will clothe all
those who abandon hope in their own goodness and throw themselves on His mercy. Praise the name of Jesus, because of what He’s done! We now have no cause to fear the coming of the righteous judge. We can join with creation, we can clap our hands with the rivers, sing for joy with the hills, and roar with the seas because of the salvation His righteous hand and holy arm have worked for Him.
Jesus stretched out the righteous right hand of God and submitted to death on a cross! He who humbled himself to the uttermost has now been exalted to the highest place, all to the glory of God the Father.
As we celebrate the coming of Jesus this advent, may the Holy Spirit compel us to burst into raucous, joyous song!
Closing Prayer
Lord, would you fill us with the joy of your presence as we celebrate your coming to be present with us? Draw us by your spirit to worship you for your salvation and your righteousness, and let us give jubilant glory to you! Amen
Reflections
Where do you find it easiest to “burst into raucous, joyous song”? In what place is it easiest for you to worship?
In what ways could you more intentionally worship with JOY this Christmas season?
Lord God, may I “repeat the sounding joy” of who You are today!
